Looking Backwards and Forwards

Tom Bragg invites us to reflect on 2010 with an eye on 2011

The failure of Copenhagen to deliver any strong, fair or binding agreements was a ‘Dunkirk moment’ that left climate campaigners reeling in 2010.

Then Obama’s inability to pass an Energy Act and his mid-term humiliation postponed indefinitely US support for a global climate treaty. Nevertheless momentum for political change has been gathering, especially in developing countries.

And the scientific consensus has also been strengthened – that our future is seriously threatened by climate change, and that changes we make this decade are pivotal.

Although our cold winters caused some scepticism about global warming, it turns out they may well be caused by the retreat of Arctic sea ice.

UK politicians will need every encouragement in 2011 to keep Britain and Europe on track to low-carbon futures.

Come and hear about Zero Carbon Britain 2030 on Feb 11th.

But politicians can’t solve climate change alone. Improving our lives and communities towards sustainability is Cambridge Carbon Footprint’s focus and we welcome your involvement in 2011.
