We decided that the easiest way to ensure we got some local food into our diet was by signing up to a veg box scheme as that way the food would come to us. Then came the difficult part – deciding which one to go for from the list of local producers in the resources section. We decided to go with Cambridge Organic Food Company because they seemed to be the best value and delivered to our area. We opted for the small mixed box and patiently waited for it’s arrival.
When our first box arrived, it was pretty exciting rummaging through to see what treats we had been given and now we’re on box 3 the novelty still hasn’t worn off. Our first box contained a range of local and not so local produce, which is all organic. We’ve since adapted this to include all local produce where we can.
We’re really enjoying our veg box so far and it’s making us think about different things to eat which makes a nice change. We were slightly worried about being overrun with potato and carrot as these are standard items each week but fortunately you can ask to swap them for something else. Living in a flat has also not been an the issue we thought it might be as we’ve been able to arrange for the box to be left in a safe place.
Next time I’ll try to take some more pictures of all the yummy dishes we’ve been enjoying!
