Do you long for a better future? Have ideas of what it might look like?
If facts and figures changed things, then we’d be well on our way to creating a greener and fairer planet on which all species could thrive. Maybe our challenge now is to create a longing for something better, to give ourselves the time and space to imagine and visualise what a different, brighter future might look like? Creating a different future for ourselves will be much easier if we can imagine what it might actually look like!
How might our cities and countryside look, how will we play, work, travel, grow our food and build our homes? How will we learn, stay well, spend our free time and be creative?
Everyone is invited to Ely’s first Imaginarium to unleash their imaginations! You’ll be encouraged with ideas from around the world and paints, pens and modelling equipment will be free to use. You can stop by for five minutes or a few hours. The Imaginarium is taking place on the same day as the Apple Fayre and Ely Cathedral’s Harvest Festival and is hosted and facilitated by the East Cambridgeshire’s Climate Action Network, Cambridge Carbon Footprint, community artist Hilary Cox Condron and Ruth Marley of the Re-Imagine Resource Centre. To give you an idea of what to expect at an Imaginarium, see a write-up from Cambridge Curiosity and Imagination of a recent one in Cambridge, or see this short film of one hosted in a shopping centre.
The Ely Imaginarium coincides with The Climate Coalition’s National Day of Action. Now a new government is in place there’s a unique opportunity to show our elected officials that, right from the start, we want action to tackle climate change and the protection and restoration of nature to be top of their agenda. Ideas captured in The Ely Imaginarium will be shared with local decision makers and on social media so as to reach as wide an audience as possible.
No booking required, just turn up! Small ideas or ginormous ones, we want them all! We’re really looking forward to creating an amazing installation from your collective imaginations in the beautiful surrounds of St Mary’s. Imaginariums are inspired by the work of the Transition Network’s Rob Hopkins. Thank you to City of Ely and E Cambridgeshire District Council for funding support.
Free event, families very welcome. U16’s must be accompanied by an adult.
