We moved to Dry Drayton from London with the intention of it being a stepping stone move. Thirty years later, now happily rooted in the community, we wanted to create a home that would give us more space, reduce our impact on the environment and support us through our retirement.

Key Features of this home
- Designed as a Passive House Plus building (under certification):
- House shape and orientation maximises solar gains in winter and minimises them in summer
- Highly insulated steel and timber frame construction
- Triple-glazed, timber-framed windows
- Highly air-tight construction
- Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
- The layout of the new house has been developed to obscure its residential purpose and be sensitive to minimising the impact on the rural setting.
- Ground source heat pump for heating and DHW – also for cooling during warmer months
- Integrated Building Management System (BMS)
- BMS integrated external blinds and shutters for solar gain control
- Water saving measures – rainwater harvesting, grey water treatment
- Heat recovery measures – MVHR, waste water heat recovery (WWHR)
- Water drainage attenuation measures – green roof (carport), rainwater attenuation pond incorporated into landscape
- Extensive PV array plus storage
- LED lighting throughout
- Dedicated vegetable garden as part of landscaping design
