Home Improvements for Carbon Reduction, Stapleford

Home Improvements for Carbon Reduction, Stapleford

Sat 5 Oct 2024, Various

Meet your host, Mark

We are both retired and moved from London to be near the children and grandchildren. We took possession of the house in December 2023 and have just moved in after completing the works on the house which included some significant remodelling.

We previously had solar panels which worked well and paid for themselves eventually, so we wanted to see what was possible with a much more modern and better insulated house. The aim was to reduce our carbon footprint and cut our energy costs.

After a lot of research beforehand, including attending Cambridge Carbon Footprint events last year, which was a good introduction to what could be achieved and  the Homebuilding & Renovating Show we came away with the confidence to employ Better Planet to help manage our energy transition.

So far, we are very pleased with the improvements. The garage now looks very high tech inside! There is a heat pump in front of it, which is not beautiful, and our terracotta colour roof tiles are now obscured by solar panels, but as we learn to live with the new system we can already see significant benefits.
