Phil, retired, is a full time carer for his partner and needed to cut his bills as was now living on a small income. He is also passionate about climate and environmental issues so when he heard about Cambridge City Council’s Action on Energy grants he thought it worth looking in to.
Need to reduce outgoings, access to the government Warmer Homes : Local Grant to carry out the retrofit project. This was the ideal opportunity to decarbonise their home and cut their energy bills.
Phil had earlier replaced their windows and back doors with double glazing. After applying for the grant in January, the council assessed their application and appointed Aran Insulation to oversee and carry out the works. They also organized a new Energy Performance Certificate assessment, which despite the new double glazing was still rated D. The Action on Energy project was to include solar panels, an inverter, home battery, air source heat pump, hot water cylinder and new radiators.
In addition Phil arranged to have their gas hob replaced with an electric induction hob so they could come of gas entirely, saving the standing charge.

We used a local company Area Cladding. Very professional worked quickly to complete the project and very good after sales service.
6 large solar panels with bird guards and a Fox inverter and battery system which is sited externally on the perimeter wall close to the house.
Mitsubishi Ecodan R32 air source heat pump, four new fatter radiators and a new McDonald SteelFlow slimline hot water cylinder.
