I get really excited in the cherry season – it’s quite short, and some years I have missed it! I was born and brought up in Kent, which has the most wonderful cherries, and I visited my mother and sister there last weekend and stopped at a local stall on the way home – they had their own cherries (and also the first tomatoes I’ve seen, grown in a greenhouse). I am trying not to be too greedy with them, but not succeeding particularly well……
Last year I got some cherries from the Sunday market stall which sells strawberries from Oakington, but I haven’t noticed any there yet – I might have missed them. Cherries aren’t cheap, even in supermarkets – my Kentish ones cost £5.50 per kilo, so they are a special treat.
