Making room for treats!

New season Worcester apples

This is the time of year when there are loads of really delicious fruit and veg, and I don’t want to miss out on them because I can’t afford them on £21 per week!! Having overspent on my first day, I had to be really careful with the next couple of days, and I am feeling pleased that I not only managed to catch up a bit, but also made room for one or two ‘treats’: a new season Worcester apple (20p);

market sweet corn

fresh local corn on the cob (50p); Victoria plums (10.5p each). I would probably have had a lot more of them normally, but I certainly enjoy them more when I know I can’t have too many!

Monday total £2.70

Tuesday total £3

The protein meals were: 2-egg spinach omelette (60p); leftover rabbit stew (£1.47 – the most expensive component!); cannellini

bean salad

beans (UK, dried, from Arjuna – £1.55 per packet), which I did in a vinaigrette dressing with chives (15p per portion – definitely the best value! That’s how I was able to eat more expensive fruit!) And I’ve got lots of the beans left for the next few days!

Most veg from Simon Steel at Mayflower Organics at the Sunday Farmers’ Market; sweet corn and apples from one of the local stalls opposite Marks and Spencer’s on weekdays; plums from Geoff Barker (Over) at the Sunday Market.
