Launch of the Cambridge Climate Change Charter

Launch of the Cambridge Climate Change Charter

Mon 7 Sep 2020, 7:00pm – 8:00pm

Individuals, businesses and organisations in Cambridge are about to get a big boost to understanding and acting on the environmental impacts of their everyday lives and operations with the launch of the new Cambridge Climate Change Charter. Featuring a free carbon footprint calculator and city specific advice hub, the Cambridge City Council initiative means that finding out where to pick up an electric car club vehicle, how to eat sustainably, save energy and reduce waste in and around the city has never been easier.

The Charter, hosted on the newly launched Cambridge Carbon Footprint (CCF) website will ask people to measure their footprint, pledge to reduce their impact and then use the online advice hub to help them succeed. To meet the Council’s goal of achieving net zero by 2050, the average carbon footprint will need to be drastically reduced from its current 9 tonnes – a big challenge but with global emissions continuing to rise, the urgency is great. The City Council believe that there is a huge appetite for a cleaner, fairer and healthier city now and that the Charter and footprinting tool can support all of us to be the change we want to see. Believing that we’re all in this together, they’re urging every one of us to sign-up, make plans to reduce our environmental impact and bring colleagues, friends and family on board.

All are invited to find out more and contribute to a discussion around the new Charter, footprinting tool and advice hub on Monday 7th Sept at 7pm. The launch will be via Zoom and speakers include:

  • Rosy Moore, Executive Councillor for Climate Change, Cambridge City Council
  • Richard Hales, Energy and Sustainability Manager at Cambridge University Hospitals
  • Bev Sedley, Chair of Cambridge Sustainable Food
  • Edward Leigh of Smarter Cambridge Transport
  • Nicola Terry of Transition Cambridge
  • Tom Bragg, Cambridge Carbon Footprint Trustee and Open Eco Homes Manager
