Reduce, Re-use and Recycle – How to minimise the amount of waste you generate, and understand what you can recycle and what you shouldn’t.
Vicky Lacey is the Waste Projects Officer (Communications) at Greater Cambridge’s Shared Waste Service and has been speaking to local people about recycling and waste reduction for 15 years. Vicky writes, “I can’t bear to see anything go to waste, and have developed a council Recycling Directory detailing how to avoid throwing away hundreds of household items. Things I often find myself speaking with people about include recycling plastics; what to do with compostable plastics; home composting; how to avoid wasting food; washable nappies, wipes and period care options; how many bins you can have; where to recycle electrical items; what to do with worn-out clothes; where the recycling collected ends up and plastic-free options.”
