Meet your host, Anna

We bought our house in 2022 and see the renovations we have undertaken as an investment for the future. As an architect with a practice that specialises in retrofit and Passivhaus design I felt I needed to practice what I preached – as far as we could afford to!

Our drivers were a reduced carbon footprint, improved biodiversity, more comfortable internal environment and an upgraded kitchen. An air source heat pump now provides hot water and heating with innovative fan radiators and the walls should be very efficient with both external and internal insulation. Outside we have taken up hard paving, planted a fern garden and installed rainwater butts. We have added a pond for wildlife and planted bird-friendly hedges. There’s also a raised bed for growing vegetables.

“It’s a lovely space to be in now, with a much better connection to the garden” says Anna.

We are now fully electric and have drastically reduced our carbon footprint – while we anticipate their energy costs to also go down the payback period is long as there are no enough financial incentives.
