June: strawberries and spinach

Still not the most prolific season for fruit and vegetables, but there are plenty of delicious local strawberries now, still some asparagus around early in the month, broad beans coming along and then courgettes, depending on the weather (none at time of writing, 11th June, as it has been so wet and cold this year!) The seasonal food sites on the web give peas for May and June, but I haven’t seen any yet!

Fruit of the month: Strawberries

Local strawberries are beginning to appear – hard to beat with some fresh cream and perhaps a sprinkling of sugar. Otherwise why not combine two seasonal ingredients and make a strawberry and rhubarb pie or crumble?
