Speakers

Orla Gibbons, Project Officer in the Climate and Environment team at South Cambs District Council

After finishing my degree in English, I joined SCDC and worked in the Environmental Health and Shared Waste services before joining the Climate team. In my role I organise and deliver our Zero Carbon Communities programme and work to monitor emissions and decarbonise the Council’s operations. I also assist in the delivery of government home upgrade grants in the District, as part of the Cambridgeshire Energy Retrofit Partnership with the County and Cambridge City Councils.

James Hobro, Parish & District Councillor and previous Net Zero Now participant

James works in the energy technology sector and has been campaigning for many years to facilitate more cycling as a low-carbon form of everyday transport. He travels frequently by bicycle between the villages of South Cambridgeshire and Cambridge and is a long-standing member of Camcycle and Sustrans. During the COVID lockdowns he was inspired to join Fowlmere Parish Council and was elected to South Cambridgeshire District Council in 2022. He has been working in the Fowlmere/ Foxton area to introduce facilities for everyday cycling and to bring improvements to the local bus network.

This event is part four of six in our Net Zero Now training programme. You don’t have to have attended the previous sessions to come along to this session. It is designed for people involved in or setting up community climate initiatives, e.g. green groups, parish councillors etc. and those involved in other community groups looking to do what they can, e.g. church groups, scout groups etc. There will be opportunities to network, and meet like minded individuals.

This workshop is part of the Cambridge Carbon Footprint Net Zero Now winter programme. Click here to find out more about the programme and our other sessions. Funded by South Cambridge District Council and the National Lottery.
