A traditional, family-run butchers shop, which has been trading since 1843. Sell a wide variety of different meats, sourced as locally as possible and produce their own hams, bacon & award winning sausages. As well as meat and game they also sell fish, cheese, bread, eggs and have a good selection of homemade deli produce.

A seasonal Farm Shop started in 1968, which sells the fruit range of varieties that are grown in the orchards. Open 3 days a week and the season starts at the end of July with Plums. The closing date may vary from year to year depending on how long Apple stocks last.

Cambridge Country Market

This is a co-operative enterprise, selling a range of baked goods, preserves, eggs and honey, garden produce and crafts. Everything is home-made. (Formerly the Women’s Institute stall)

Cambridge Farmers Outlet

This cooperative of 20+ local producers sells seasonal food direct to the public.  Stocks organic bread, and fruit, veg and flowers grown without pesticide use, along with chutneys, some prepared food and high-quality frozen ready meals.

Carter’s stall (in the Cambridge Market)

This stall sells quite a lot of local produce, as well as imported fruit and vegetables. The local vegetables are clearly marked.

Cobs Bakery is a registered organic producer with the Bio-dynamic Agricultural Association. In order to keep food local and keep down food miles they get their supplies from local farmers and millers. They use 100% renewable electricity from Good Energy. A traditional independent butchers shop, stocking local meat and eggs, from Suffolk and Norfolk, local bacon and their own sausages. Pies, cakes and other baked goods are made on the premises. They also sell fruit and vegetables, and quite a bit of this produce is local.

They grow their own porridge oats, organic wheat and spelt and sell flour milled on the farm, as well as various gluten-free bread and cake mixes. They produce and sell gluten-free porridge oats and supply shops all over the country. Daily Bread has their products, but you can also buy by mail order.

Harvey’s fruit and veg stall (in the Cambridge Market)

This is a family-run stall where the Carters sell their local-grown vegetables. They’ve been growing veg for sale locally for four generations in Shelford. Not everything on the stall is local (you will see lemons!) but a lot is and it is clearly marked.

Brian and Angie Kearns have a stall at the Sunday Farmer’s Market in Cambridge Market Square (opposite Great St Mary’s Church). They usually sell out by lunchtime, so get there early! They always sell free-range eggs and chicken and home-made jams and chutneys and are an outlet for Munns rapeseed oil (Chatteris) – you can take bottles to refill. Often they have duck and duck eggs and sometimes they have local wild game: rabbits, pigeons, smoked pheasant breast, venison. Angie is happy to give recipes that use their produce. Their 4.5-acre smallholding is in Cottenham, Cambs.

Opened in 2002, this family run farm shop offers a range of locally sourced produce using traditional farming methods. Stocks a wide variety of local, seasonal vegetables, ranging from fen celery, through to purple sprouting broccoli and Norfolk samphire. La Hogue also has a butchery section, which stocks traditionally reared, free range meats. When in season, you can buy local wild venison and game (pheasant, partridge, wild rabbit, hare and mallard).
