Our homes account for around 27 per cent of the UK’s carbon emissions (Friends of the Earth, 2011). The average UK household is spending up to 50 per cent more than necessary on home energy, most of which is non-renewable. Millions of us live in old houses which leak precious heat and energy resources because we don’t have basic energy-saving measures, such as adequate insulation or draught proofing, in place.
