A skills-fest bringing together experts in sustainability with those keen to learn 1:1

Cambridge Carbon Footprint are teaming up with the Cambridgeshire Library Service to offer this unique skills-fest event at which you borrow a person, rather than a book! After a few years of meeting remotely on a screen, what a refreshing change it’ll be for the focus to just be on you, your needs, your questions.

You’ll be able sit 1:1 with a huge range of home energy, waste and consumption, food, transport and other sustainability experts and have a conversation focused on your particular interests.Whether you’re just beginning to think about living more sustainably, or advanced and looking for expert advice our human ‘books’ will be able help. In addition you’ll be able to measure your carbon footprint, visit a few local green group stalls and enjoy a pop-up café.

So how does a human library work?

‘Books’ in the Human Library are subject matter experts that you can borrow for a chat on their area of expertise. Borrowers can browse the available ‘books’ and select who they would like to speak to in advance, there will be a little space for drop-ins on the day too but you may have to wait. ‘Books’ each have their own area with a couple of seats for lenders to sit down and talk. There’s no minimum time for borrowers to spend with a ‘book’, but 10 minutes is the maximum for one person.

Visitors wanting to delve deeper, take action and join with others will be able to use the Cambridge Resilience Web to find support – it’s a visual directory of the many organisations, groups and university departments working to build a more sustainable, biodiverse, equitable and resilient Cambridge.
