CCF Summer Social

Over 20 of us spent the evening outside in unusually glorious weather, celebrating all the hard work we’ve done so far this year over a glass of wine, enjoying a garden resplendent and lush after the big rains.

Sustainable Come Dine With Me – Autumn

Many of you may have seen Channel 4′s ‘Come Dine with Me’ – well CCF is organising it’s very own version, with the theme of ‘Sustainable Food’!

We’re looking for people with a passion for cooking – and for the environment – to take part.

Over four evenings in September or October (one evening a week) participants will take turns to host a ‘sustainable dinner party’ for each other.

This is your chance to show off your culinary skills, enjoy three nights of dining out, meet some new local people, or just a creative way to get rid of surplus veg from your allotment!

So if you’d like to have dinner with a few Cambridge folk, and eat some seasonal, local, home-cooked food (or just to find out more), then get in touch…

To register an interest please email or phone in with your:
– Name, Address,Telephone and Email
– Any dietary requirements

Swishing Party!

Love fab new clothes but not the price tag to your wallet or the planet? Swishing parties are the answer, one of the great ideas brought to you by Futerra.

If you’ve never been to one before here’s how it works: Attendees bring nice, clean, presentable clothes that are lurking unloved in our wardrobe, and other women fall in love with them and give them a good home.  We’ve all bought things in the past that we’ve never worn or have outgrown one way or another, and now’s the time to swap them for something that you’ll love to wear!  It’s the perfect opportunity to swap those unwanted Christmas gifts, pick up some new clothes for free and to learn about how to organise a Swishing party of your own!

This could be you!

If you’d like to come along:

– Please bring at least one item; you can leave with as many as you like

– All clothes must be clean and in good, ready to wear condition

– No money is exchanged – all Swishable clothes are free to whoever claims them first. Donations to CCF would be greatly appreciated though (suggested £1 per item of clothing you take)!

– Any items left over at the end will be donated to Oxfam.  If people want to take things they brought back home with them that’s fine too.

Location: Railway station/Hills Road (details provided on booking)

Event free and open to all, but numbers are limited so booking is essential!

To book please contact info@cambridgecarbonfootprint.org

Tour of Donarbon Waste Facility

Getting rid of waste accounts for about 3%of your CO2, and we have a rare opportunity to learn about this firsthand at Donarbon. As a part of environment week, Cambridge Sustainable City and the Donarbon Waste Facility are offering a tour to CCF members beginning 10am on June 25th. It should prove very enlightening!

The tour will last up to 1½ hours, including a talk for 15-20 mins and a tour of the site for 45 mins – 1 hour. The tour will include:
· exactly where the City’s rubbish ends up;
· how much recyclable material is collected;
· the huge composting facility – where all of our green waste ends
up.

We will be meeting at 9:15am in the carpark outside of the CAR office (in the Gwydir Street Enterprise Centre). Spaces are very limited, so please email Karin to book. If you are able to drive and can offer a lift to others, please let us know as well.
