Cambridge Carbon Footprint August News

A brief newsletter this month, as many of us are away, hopefully enjoying some sunshine in the hottest year globally since records began.

Cambridge Carbon Footprint 5 years on……

When Ro Randall and Andy Brown devised ‘Carbon Conversations’ for Cambridge, little did they imagine that five years on it would be rolled out to the rest of the UK, run for the Scottish Parliament and translated into American and Welsh.

We will be holding our 6th national training in Cambridge on 21st-22nd November. If you know of anyone who would be interested in taking part, tell them to get in touch.

And in Cambridge….

Full details of the next round of Carbon Conversations groups will be sent out in the September newsletter, and will be up on the website soon.

Eco-renovation

Judging by the success of recent projects and workshops there appears to be huge interest in this area amongst the public.

Open Eco Houses proved to be extremely popular, as 16 householders in and around Cambridge very kindly opened their homes to a total of 229 visitors. Feedback was unanimously positive, and we hope to run the event again in 2011.

Sarah Lonsdale in The Daily Telegraph wrote about the event, see the article here.

CONGRATULATIONS! to Marta Fernandez-Sanchez who won a Minim energy monitor in the prize draw.

Eco-renovation Workshops

The first of our Eco-renovations workshops ‘Eco-renovation on a Budget’ was so oversubscribed that we will be repeating it on 17th August. There are a few places left – to book, email info@cambridgecarbonfootprint.org.

The next one – ‘Eco-renovation: Getting started’ – takes place on 16th September. Full details here.

Books

Have you read a great ‘green’ book recently? One you’re burning to share and boring your friends with? We have a small budget to spend on books and would love to hear of any recommendations – email info@cambridgecarbonfootprint.org

Do you know that Carbon Conversations graduates are welcome to come into the office and borrow from the book library? We have a wide range of books on environmental issues.

And finally…….

For a wry laugh, check out this video of David Mitchell’s thoughts on climate change.

As always, many thanks to all Cambridge Carbon Footprint volunteers and supporters. We look forward to seeing you at events in the Autumn.

With best wishes from everyone in the CCF office
