Big Dig – volunteers needed to prepare for a great growing season

A 'Big Digger'

Various locations. Volunteers are needed to help get four of Cambridge’s community gardens, allotments and orchards ready for a bumper harvest this year. Cambridge Carbon Footprint is co-ordinating the local Big Dig and we are really excited about the difference that Big Dig volunteers will make to our many growing spaces. At the Midsummer Common and Trumpington Community Orchard sites a local forager will be providing diggers with a surprise wild soup and local musicians the Misspent Ukes will accompany the volunteers. There will also be cake (although please do bring along your favourite to share)!

The four sites taking part are (for a map and details see http://www.bigdig.org.uk/cambridge/) Trumpington Community Orchard, Empty Common Community Garden, Midsummer Common Community Orchard and Rock Road Library Community Garden. There will be a real variety of activities to choose from: planting wildflower meadows, pruning, hard digging, erecting polytunnels, planting organic seeds etc. All Big Digs are 10am -1pm on Sat 22nd apart from the one at Empty Common which takes place on Sunday 23rd, 10am-1pm. All welcome, a nice activity for families. Please bring along tools and gloves if you have them, otherwise some will be available.

No booking required. Please contact Nicole  for further information on 01223 301842 or email nicole@cambridgecarbonfootprint.org
