Porridge and red currants

This is the simplest breakfast you can imagine: porridge oats from Glebe Farm Huntingdon, red currants from the Sunday farmers’ market (Geoff Barker’s stall, which also sells home-made fruit pies and where I also got fantastic plums), and water – no milk, no sugar or honey and it tastes delicious! A punnet of red currants (enough for six breakfasts) cost £2 and a bag of gluten-free oats costs £2.49 (enough for over a week). With it I have a cup of herb tea (home-grown lemon balm) with crushed garlic – I know, it sounds horrible, but I love it (and Dave assures me he can’t smell it on my breath….)
