Eco-renovation

Cambridge Carbon Footprint’s joint Eco-Renovation seminar with SmartLife on May 13th was an outstanding success. 20 local builders gathered to hear an inspiring talk from Tim Acheson of Green Hat Construction about the £140 million opportunities opening up for the construction industry in renovating Cambridge’s existing housing stock over the next 10 years. Sponsored by Ridgeons, who provided supper and an informative stall, the event was also an opportunity for SmartLife to gather views on the training needs of the sector in delivering the work needed. The names of the companies attending will be featured on our website shortly so those of you who have been looking for an eco-friendly building company will know who to contact.

Tour of Donarbon Waste Facility

25 June 2009
10:00 amto11:30 am

Getting rid of waste accounts for about 3%of your CO2, and we have a rare opportunity to learn about this firsthand at Donarbon. As a part of environment week, Cambridge Sustainable City and the Donarbon Waste Facility are offering a tour to CCF members beginning 10am on June 25th. It should prove very enlightening!

The tour will last up to 1½ hours, including a talk for 15-20 mins and a tour of the site for 45 mins – 1 hour. The tour will include:
· exactly where the City’s rubbish ends up;
· how much recyclable material is collected;
· the huge composting facility – where all of our green waste ends
up.

We will be meeting at 9:15am in the carpark outside of the CAR office (in the Gwydir Street Enterprise Centre). Spaces are very limited, so please email Karin to book. If you are able to drive and can offer a lift to others, please let us know as well.
